Sihr is the Arabic word for magic. Often people talk about white and black magic but we should be aware of the fact that sihr refers to magic (and not white or black magic). Sihr is a polytheistic act which takes one out of the fold of Islaam. This act involves the use of magician to cast a spell on somebody to cause harm to the latter. It is a major sin called Shirk. People who know you would normally do sihr on you perhaps because they do not want you to succeed in life or they want to take revenge due to some favors which you declined towards them (for example, a promotion at work). There are stern warnings in Islaam regarding this act and the punishment is beheading. If one dies without repenting, their destination is hellfire.
How magic is done?
A magician requires some information before a spell can be cast on someone for e.g. s/he would ask for the parent’s name, age, and the victim’s date of birth and will invoke the devils to find the victim. The devils would then find weaknesses in their victims and find their way to enter the body. Other ways include
- getting a picture of the victim
- a piece of cloth of the victim containing his DNA
- doing magic in food and then finding a way to feed the victim
Knots are usually tied and then the magician would blow on the knots.
The devils work for the magician and vice versa. Magic is a contract between the magician and the devils. The former has to do some rituals to meet the requirements of the contract. For example a magician would:
- Sacrifice animals for the devils
- Isolate himself in the dark
- Sleep with garbage stuff on him
- Feed on feces
- Urinate on pages from holy books to insult different religions and then walk with the pages of it in the toilet
Evidence of Magic from Qur’an
Evidence of the existence of magic from the Qur’an:
This is the verse from surah baqarah where Allah the exalted talks about the Angels Harut and Marut who came to Babylon:
They followed what the Shayâtîn (devils) gave out (falsely of the magic) in the lifetime of Sulaimân (Solomon). Sulaimân did not disbelieve, but the Shayâtîn (devils) disbelieved, teaching men magic and such things that came down at Babylon to the two angels, Hârût and Mârût, but neither of these two (angels) taught anyone (such things) till they had said, “We are only for trial, so disbelieve not (by learning this magic from us).” And from these (angels) people learn that by which they cause separation between man and his wife, but they could not thus harm anyone except by Allâh’s Leave. And they learn that which harms them and profits them not. And indeed they knew that the buyers of it (magic) would have no share in the Hereafter. And how bad indeed was that for which they sold their ownselves, if they but knew. (2:102)
Effects of magic
The effects are many and can kill if not treated. We should also be aware that we have choices in life where we decide to treat ourselves or let the problem linger till we die.
The effects are not limited to the following:
- General health issues at a young age or they just happen to manifest all of a sudden at a certain stage in our life.
- Mental health issues (Mood swings/Nervousness/Anxiety/Depression)
- Not being able to maintain a healthy relationship with your family members and or friends
- Not able to get married or something just happens whenever you are about to get married. It could be that Allah is protecting you from someone who is not suitable for you and if this happens all the time, then it could be a sign of magic
- Not able to work at all. You do not feel like you want to work or you never find a job at all
- Sisters not able to conceive, abnormal menstrual cycle, repetitive failed pregnancy
- Cancer
- Sleep disorders
- Delusion/Fear/Psychosis. Some experience fear at the time of Maghrib salat
- Paralysis (partial or full: hands/legs/facial)
- Impotence
- Skin diseases
- Convulsion/Epilepsy
Some Types of Magic
Magic of separation
This is done to separate a couple. This includes the following signs:
- Not attracted to each other anymore
- Discussions without any grounds leading to divorce
- One of the partners always being angry
- Yelling at each other
- Feeling that the relationship has become toxic and one or both partners are completely fed up
- When one partner is away from the other, s/he misses his/her partner but when they become close, things do not work
Magic of love
This type of magic is used to force the nature of someone such that s/he starts loving someone whom s/he hated previously
- Listening to everything that your partner says even if you disagree
- You cannot leave your partner at all although you badly want to
- People tell you that you have been blinded and you disagree and cannot distinguish between the wrong and the right things
- Strong sense of love which is unconditional and you do not understand why
Magic of destruction
This is done to destroy the life of someone completely and is a dangerous one and needs to be treated as soon as the signs start showing up. This starts usually at a young age when someone has acumen, is intelligent and has potentials to become very successful professionals in the future such as doctors/engineers/etc..
The signs include:
- Bipolar Disorder
- Schizophrenia
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Delusion
- Fear
- You feel completely lost
- Multiple Epilepsy/Convulsions
- Multiple health issues at once (digestive, head/shoulder/neck/back pain)
- Paralysis (partial or full)
- Cancer
- Poor immune system
Magic of Impotence
This causes a lack of sexual desire among couples. Examples include
- Erectile dysfunction (Not able to maintain an erection during intercourse)
- One partner not able to enjoy during the intercourse
- The male partner not able to maintain an erect penis even before intercourse
Magic causing the female to bleed
In this case, the sister has irregular menses which
- doctors cannot explain
- does not allow the sister to become pregnant
- does not allow the sister to pray due to being impure
Magic to destroy the bloodline
This is done to eliminate a generation/bloodline completely and this can happen only by the will of Allah the exalted. The signs include
- No peace/harmony between family members
- No one can get married
- Miscarriages among female family members
- No one conceiving despite all medical efforts
- Family members suffering from the same ailments and dying due to them
Other signs you are afflicted by magic
Some signs include the following
- No signs of cleanliness
- Staying away from deen
- Isolating yourself without valid reasons
- You wake up from nightmares frequently
- You experience the following types of dreams:
- Falling from a high place
- Someone/something chasing you
- Dreaming of snakes/dogs/buffalows
- You happen to smell odor of feces when there are no physical traces of them
Jinns & Magic
The effects of magic can occur with and without Jinn Possession. If a jinn is present, a contract has been made between a magician and the jinn. It is possible for the effects of magic to manifest without the presence of the jinn in the body.
FAQs about magic
Why am I afflicted by magic?
This is a test from Allah. Sometimes we are not close to our lord and he afflicts us with some trials which forces us to return back to him. This was decreed and Allah does not cause us harms and we harm ourselves. This also happens due to our sins
And whosoever turns away blindly from the remembrance of the Most Gracious (Allâh) (i.e. this Qur’ân and worship of Allâh), We appoint for him Shaitan (Satan – devil) to be a Qarîn (a companion) to him. [43:36]
How much time does it take to be cured from magic?
Only Allah knows best. We need to repent constantly for our sins and we should remind ourselves that Allah does not test us beyond what we can bear
Allâh burdens not a person beyond his scope. [2:286]
Also, Allah does not reject the dua of the oppressed. We should seek his help with patience
What should I do if I am afflicted by Magic?
You should follow a ruqyah program given by the raqi. See the treatment section
I have the signs and symptoms above but nothing happened during the ruqyah session. What should I do?
There are several possibilities:
- The raqi is not experienced enough in the field
- The ruqyah session should be at least 1 hour
- You might require several ruqyah sessions. I have noticed that someone did not react previously when he has been to different raqis but after reciting upon him, I started noticing reactions
- It is not necessary for one to always react during ruqyah because the jinn is not present and has already left prior to ruqyah. I have had a case like this and it was a flying type of jinn
- You might need a different type of ruqyah (again it requires experience in the field)
- There is no jinn involved but the effects of the magic are here
How can I protect myself from magic?
- Read the daily adkaar (see dua section)
- Make dua to Allah
- Eat seven ajwa dates on empty stomach
- Read the Quran on a regular basis
- Offer the salat on time
- Pray in congregation
