Preventing oneself from being afflicted by spiritual problems is possible by the will of Allah. Using the following means/dua/adkaar can protect oneself from being afflicted by spiritual problems:
- Eating 7 Ajwa dates on empty stomach
- Reciting Surat Al Baqarah prevents Shaytwaan from entering the house for 3 days
- Removing pictures of human beings/animals/drawings which contain faces from the house as the angels do not enter such places
- Not keeping dogs in the house
- Reciting Ayaat-Ul-Qursi after every compulsory prayer
Evening and Morning Adkaar
This is often ignored by many of us but Wallahi as Raqis we have seen the benefits of the morning and evening adkaar as they act like fortresses around us.
Also read the last 2 chapters (Falaq, Naas) in the morning and evening as well.
“Whoever says a hundred times in a day: La Ilaaha Illa Allah Wahdahu La Shareeka Lah, Lahul Mulk Wa Lahul Hamd Wa huwa ‘ala Kulli Shay’in Qadeer (None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, Alone, without partners, to Him belongs all sovereignty and praise and He is over all things Omnipotent), he will have a reward equivalent to that of emancipating ten slaves, a hundred good deeds will be recorded to his credit, a hundred of his sins will be wiped out from his record of bad deeds, and he will be safeguarded against the devil on that day till the evening; and no one will exceed him (in the reward that he attained), except someone who has recited these words more often than he did.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
“Whoever says before moving from his place and before folding his legs from the Fajr prayer and the Maghrib prayer ‘La Ilaaha Illa Allah Wahdahu La Shareeka Lah, Lahul Mulk Wa Lahul Hamd Yuhyi wa Yumeet, Wa huwa ‘ala Kulli Shay’in Qadeer,’ ten times, then Allah will write for him for each one ten good deeds, and He will wipe out from him ten sins; he will upgrade him ten degrees (in reward), and he (the person who says it) will be safeguarded from all kinds of harm and will be guarded against the accursed devil; and no sin can overtake him on that day (and nullify his good deeds) except Shirk (associating partners in worship with Allah); and he will be the best of the people in deeds, except for a man who said (the above Thikr) more than he did.” [Ahmad]
Additional means of protecting oneself
- Do not expose your blessings. This cannot be stressed enough. Do not show your blessings on social media (Facebook/Whatsapp/etc..)
- Do not flaunt/brag about your performance at work/school/university
- Do not praise the performance of your kids in front of others
- Do not show your affection for your spouse in public places
- Sisters should dress themselves properly (Proper hijaab). If you do not obey your lord, why do you expect him to protect you?
- Give Sadaqah as often as possible
- Stay in the remembrance of Allah
- Do not waste your time by watching movies
- Do not listen to music
- Avoid pornography
- Avoid haraam relationships/adultery
- Shower with Ruqyah water regularly
