Treating Ayn/Hasad

There are different ways to treat ayn/hasad. If you know who gave you the evil eye, you should ask the person to do wudhu and then you should collect the remaining water and wash yourself with it. One should not stop the treatment even if no results are showing up. The cure comes when Allah has decreed it.

Muslim, Ahmad and al-Tirmidhi narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The evil eye is real and if anything were to overtake the divine decree, it would be the evil eye. When you are asked to take a bath (to provide a cure) from the influence of the evil eye, you should take a bath.”

Narrated from Sahl ibn Haneef (RAA) that the Prophet ﷺ came out and traveled with him towards Makkah until they were in the mountain pass of Al-Kharar in Al-Jahfah. There Sahl ibn Haneef did ghusl (bathed), and he was a handsome white-skinned man with beautiful skin. Amir ibn Rabee’ah, one of Banu Adiyy ibn K’ab looked at him whilst he was doing ghusl and said, “I have never seen such skin as beautiful as this, not even the skin of a virgin,” upon those words Sahl fell to the ground. They went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, “O Messenger of Allah, can you do anything for Sahl because by Allah he cannot raise his head.” He said, “Do you accuse anyone with regard to him?” They said, “‘Amir ibn Rabee’ah looked at him.” So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called Amir and rebuked him strongly. He said, “Why would one of you kill his brother? If you see something that you like, then pray for blessings for him.” Then he said to him, “Wash yourself for him.” So he washed his face, hands, forearms, knees and the sides of his feet, and inside his izaar (lower garment) in the vessel. Then that water was poured over him (i.e. Sahl) and a man poured it over his head and back from behind. He did that to him then Sahl got up and joined the people and there was nothing wrong with him. Ahmad, Malik, An-Nasai’ and Ibn Hibban. Classed as saheeh (authentic) by al-Albani in Al-Mishkat.

If one does not know who gave him/her evil eye, the person should ideally recite ruqyah over water, olive oil and honey. One should wash him/herself regularly with the ruqyah water, drink from it.

As for the honey, should drink from it (if one is diabetic and this has an impact on the blood sugar levels, skip the honey) and for the olive oil, one should oil him/herself before going to bed and drink it.

The following adkaar should be recited in the morning after fajr and asr, 3 times:

“The Prophet (ﷺ) used to seek refuge for Hasan and Husain and say: A’udhu bi kalimatil-lahil- tammati, min kulli shaitanin wa hammah, wa min kulli ‘aynin lammah (I seek refuge for you both in the Perfect Words of Allah, from every devil and every poisonous reptile, and from every evil eye).’ And he would say: ‘Thus Ibrahim used to seek refuge with Allah for Isma’il and Ishaq,’ or he said: ‘for Isma’il and Ya’qub.’”

Grade: Sahih (Darussalam) Reference : Sunan Ibn Majah 3525

Bismillahil-ladhi la yadurru ma’as-mihi shai’un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama’i, wa Huwas-Sami’ul-‘Alim – “”In the name of Allah with whose name nothing is harmed on earth nor in the heavens and He is The All-Seeing, The All-Knowing.” – At-Tirmidhi: 5/133

Acûdhu bi-kalimati l-lâhi-t-tââmmâti min sharri mâ khalaq – “I take refuge in Allah’s perfect words from the evil He has created” Muslim: (An-Nawawi: 17/32)

In addition to the above adkaar, one should make it a habit to read the last 3 chapters of the quran before going to bed.

Reciting the dua of Jibreel Alayhissalaam:

It was narrated from Abu Sa’eed that Jibra’il came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said:“O Muhammad, you are ill. He said: ‘Yes.’ He said: Bismillahi arqika, min kulli shay’in yu’dhika, min sharri kulli nafsin aw ‘aynin aw hasidin. Allahu yashfika, bismillahi arqika (In the Name of Allah I perform Ruqyah for you, from everything that is harming you, from the evil of every soul or envious eye, may Allah heal you. In the Name of Allah I perform Ruqyah for you). – Grade: Sahih (Darussalam) – Reference : Sunan Ibn Majah 3523

One can read the following verses with the intention of self-ruqyah:

Surah Fatihah
Surah 2 V60
Surah 2 V109
Surah 2 V247
Surah 2 V269
Surah 2 V255
Surah 2 V285-286
Surah 3 V13-14
Surah 3 V26-27
Surah 3 V37
Surah 4 V54
Surah 36 V 34
Surah 88 V12
Surah 112
Surah 113
Surah 114

The above verses are general ones which we recite over patients but these are not the only verses for evil eye. As mentioned in the section for evil eye, the effects can be on rizq, beauty, etc..

When one sees a blessing which someone has (for e.g. car, house, kids, beauty, etc…) one should invoke the blessings of Allah upon that person by saying Masha’allah, la hawla wala quwwatah. Allahumma baarik alay.

When we make dua for others, the angels make dua for us:

Abu Darda reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “No Muslim servant supplicates for his brother behind his back but that the angel says: And for you the same.”

Source: Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 2732

One should also thank Allah and invoke the blessings of Allah upon himself when he sees someone in a trouble while he is not. There are some situations where I have noticed that the person did not say Allahumma Baarik and s/he started facing the same issues which the other person is facing.

Social Media

As raqis, we have noticed a disease where people like to share everything which they have on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok. The hasid (one which envies) will not be happy with those blessings which the person has and the latter starts facing issues in his/her life. Despite numerous advice, these people persist by uploading pictures of what they are up to. Pictures of cars, food, going out with friends/spouse (you name them)

Giving Sadaqah

It was narrated that Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said to me: “Fear Allah wherever you are, and follow up a bad deed with a good deed, it will wipe it out.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi (1987); classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Sunan al-Tirmidhi. And it was narrated that Ka‘b ibn ‘Ajrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said to me: “Charity extinguishes sin as water extinguishes fire.” Al-Tirmidhi (614); classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Sunan al-Tirmidhi.

Making dua

One should find time to make dua to Allah to get rid of the problem. Make dua during the prescribed times where dua are accepted
